1/9/17 DRSFA mission statement - Please join them and help out.

The members of the DRSFA, convinced of the great benefits to be derived by protecting the water quality and the environment in and around the beautiful Delaware River and all its tributaries, formed an association under the name Delaware River Shad Fishermen’s Association. Originally incorporated on January 19, 1977, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, they adopted a Constitution and By-Laws to guide their everyday activities on September 16, 1992.

In particular, the DRSFA is interested in maintaining and improving the annual runs of the American Shad, and is desirous of preserving this natural resource. In order to accomplish this, we are guided by our Constitution and By-laws, which were last amended on November 18, 2015. Although the main objective and purpose of this Association has been to protect the Delaware River and its tributaries and the annual runs of American Shad, we are also interested in protecting the annual runs of other migratory fish species such as Striped Bass and Sturgeon. To this end, the Association endeavors to keep the river flowing free of obstructions, including dams, and any other detriment.

Any person who supports the objectives of this Association and pays the required dues can become a member. Presently there are approximately 400 members of the DRSFA.

Our latest project is to provide a permanent and secure structure to house the Shad spawning tank and accessory tanks, pumps, testing equipment, nets, tools, etc. Since 2013 the tank has been operated and stored outdoors at Hugh Moore Park and the remaining equipment has been stored in the park maintenance building or at the properties of various members of the DRSFA. The tank is now the only source of eggs for the Shad in Schools program, which occurs throughout the Lehigh Valley area and beyond. In 2017, fifteen area schools have indicated they will participate in the program.

So far, the primary partners involved in the building project are the DRSFA, City of Easton, Lehigh River Stocking Association (LRSA), PA Chapter of the Sierra Club and the Northampton County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs (NCFSC).

The proposed location for the building will be approximately 250 feet behind the existing National Canal Museum (Emrick Technology Center) located in Hugh Moore Park, which belongs to the City of Easton. The 44’ X 24’ building is proposed to be placed along the tow-path which runs along the Lehigh Canal in the park. As was done in previous years, all water for the tank(s) will be pumped from the canal so that the fish will remain in familiar water from the Lehigh River, which is a part of the Delaware River system.

12/14/14 Who will be the first one to send in a picture for the 2015 season? Get going you guys in Florida. I bet the fish are in the river already.

Shad fishing is a popular sport throughout the United States, that is enjoyed by young and old fishermen alike. The Shad can typically be found as far west as California and as far east as Massachusetts. Catching Shad relies on using lures to attract the fish. Once the fish has taken the lure, it is up to the fisherman to bring in the Shad, without a sports injury that can leave them in pain. However, even the most seasoned fisherman can occasionally have a minor injury, that does not need to consult a Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer. We hope that you safely enjoy your Shad fishing experience.

I am in the process of revising this site to speed up processing time. Much of the old content has been deleted. It can be found at the old site. It is about time I clean it up after 11 years. Please bear with me while I make the changes, and it is my busy time on Woo's Lures. Suggestions are welcome.
